Enhancing value, extending lifespan. Maintenance and reliability consulting for plants, and building estimates for owners and developers.

What we do

Machines warn you before they stop.

Vibration rises. Bearings run hot. Oil fills with metal. Current draw creeps up. Marner turns those signals into a maintenance decision you make on your schedule, instead of a breakdown that makes it for you.

Normal

Live example. A pump bearing wearing out: the vibration level climbs from normal, through alert, to alarm. Caught at alert, the repair is a planned job.

The idea

Failure is not an event. It is an interval.

A machine rarely breaks without notice. It degrades — and somewhere along that decline it starts emitting a detectable signal. Engineers call that first detectable moment P, and the moment the machine can no longer do its job F. Everything you can do about a failure, you do in between. Every maintenance strategy is really a choice about where on this curve you intervene.

Services

Six reliability services. Each one moves a different number.

Reliability is not a single purchase. It is a set of capabilities that between them shorten repairs, lengthen the run between failures, and stop you paying twice for the same fault. For new buildings and extensions, Marner also prepares building estimates.

Predictive maintenance development

We build the programme: which assets to watch, which technique suits each failure mode, at what interval, with what alarm limits and what the reading obliges you to do. The output is a running routine your team owns, not a report.

↓ Unplanned failures, as work moves from breakdown to schedule

Maintenance condition monitoring

Vibration analysis, infrared thermography, oil analysis, ultrasound and motor current signature analysis — the instruments that find P. Routes, baselines, trending and interpretation, so a rising number becomes a diagnosis.

↑ Warning time before a failure reaches F

Reliability engineering

FMEA and root cause analysis on the assets that keep failing. We look past the broken part to the reason it broke — misalignment, sizing, lubrication, duty, process upset — and remove it.

↑ Mean time between failures

Asset management

Asset register, criticality ranking, and a lifecycle position for every machine: maintain, refurbish, replace, or deliberately run to failure. Capital and maintenance spend decided on evidence rather than on whichever machine broke last.

↓ Total lifecycle cost per asset

Expert consulting

Planning and scheduling, work order discipline, spares and critical-parts strategy, PM optimisation, shutdown preparation. The maintenance management that decides whether a good diagnosis ever becomes a completed job.

↓ Mean time to repair, and the backlog that hides behind it

Customised training

Built around your plant and your equipment: reading a vibration trend, precision alignment and lubrication, failure analysis, planning. Reliability only holds if the people on shift can sustain it after we leave.

→ Gains that survive the handover

Tool 01

What unplanned downtime is costing you

Most plants know their maintenance budget and not their downtime bill — because the downtime bill never arrives as an invoice. Put your own numbers in. Nothing is sent anywhere; the figures stay in your browser.

Downtime cost modelFigures in BBD

Bearings, misalignment, lubrication, imbalance and insulation faults degrade measurably. Sudden faults do not.

A planned job has parts staged, people ready and a window. It is shorter than the same job at 2am.

The model is deliberately simple and shows its working. It does not price scrapped product, overtime premiums, expedited freight, contractual penalties, warranty or reputational cost — so treat the result as a floor, not a ceiling. Ask us to build the version with your real failure history in it.

Tool 02

How mature is your maintenance?

Eight questions, about two minutes. It scores four capabilities that decide whether a plant is chasing failures or preventing them — and tells you which one is holding you back.

    Tool 03

    New service · Building estimates

Know what a building will cost, and whether it will pay, before you build it.

Marner now prepares building estimates for homes, apartment buildings and small commercial units in Barbados. One estimate pack answers the questions a bank, a planner and an owner will each ask. Try a quick look below with your own lot and building; the full pack is prepared for you and opened through your client login.

Site planThe building on your lot, with the road building line, setbacks and parking drawn to scale.
Floor planRoom layout for each floor, sized from your footprint or your architect's drawings.
3D viewThe massing on the lot, so you can see height, roof and frontage before anything is drawn in detail.
Cost summaryOne figure for the whole project, split into building works, on-costs, contingency and land.
Cost detailsElement by element: substructure, frame, walls, roof, openings, finishes, services and external works.
Rules checkRoad building line, coastal setback, site coverage, height, water storage and parking for that location.
Loan & returnsMonthly payment, rental income, yield, debt cover and the year the project pays back.

The quick look uses broad Barbados cost ranges and the Planning and Development Department’s published setbacks. It is a starting point, not an estimate. Your estimate pack is priced from your actual design and lot.

    Sectors

Where we have done this work

Reliability looks different in each plant, because what a failure costs is different in each plant.

    Hotels & resorts

Chillers, air handling, lifts, pumps, standby generation. The failure a guest notices costs more than the repair, and peak season leaves no maintenance window — so the work has to be known about early and done small.

Watch: chiller plant · AHUs · lift drives · gensets

    Cement & heavy manufacturing

Crushers, mills, kilns, conveyors, fans. Abrasive duty and large rotating machines, where an hour of stoppage is expensive and an unplanned mill outage cascades through the whole line.

Watch: mill bearings · gearboxes · ID fans · drives

    Food & beverage

A stoppage mid-batch is not just lost hours — it is scrapped product, a cleaning cycle and an audit question. Hygiene constraints limit when you can open a machine, which makes advance warning worth more here than almost anywhere.

Watch: fillers · homogenisers · refrigeration · CIP pumps

    Petroleum & energy

Here a failure is a safety and environmental event before it is a production one. Asset integrity, tank and line condition, rotating equipment and protective systems, with the evidence trail regulators and insurers expect.

Watch: pumps · tank integrity · ESD systems · motors

    Property owners & developers

Homes, apartment buildings and small commercial units. Before land is bought or a loan is signed, the owner needs to know what the building will cost, whether planning will allow it on that lot, and whether the rent will carry the mortgage.

Deliver: site plan · floor plan · 3D · costs · rules check · loan model

    Marner

    Enhancing value, extending lifespan

Marner is a maintenance and asset reliability consultancy based in Barbados, working with plants across the region that depend on equipment they cannot afford to lose. We are the practice in this market whose main product is reliability itself — not a service line attached to selling something else.

The work is led by Neri James, an electrical and computer engineer with a decade across cement manufacturing, food production, hospitality and petroleum — as maintenance technician, electrician, maintenance supervisor, production manager and corporate project engineer. That range matters: the reason a machine keeps failing is usually somewhere between engineering, operations and the way work gets planned.

Engagements run from a focused assessment through to standing up a full condition-monitoring programme and training the team that will run it.

Marner also prepares building estimates for owners, developers and their lenders. The same habit applies: price the whole life of the asset, check it against the rules early, and decide on evidence.

    How we work

    1. 01Assess
Walk the plant, read the history, rank the assets by what their failure actually costs.
    2. 02Design
Match a strategy to each failure mode — monitor it, prevent it, redesign it, or accept it.
    3. 03Implement
Routes, baselines, alarm limits, work orders. The programme starts running while we are still there.
    4. 04Hand over
Train the team, agree the review cadence, leave it in their hands.

    Contact

Start with a conversation about one machine, or one building.

Pick the asset that has caused you the most trouble this year. Tell us what it does, how it has failed, and what a stoppage costs. That is usually enough for a first useful answer — and enough for us to say honestly whether there is work here worth doing.

Planning a building? Send the lot size and location, what you want to build, and any drawings you have. We will tell you what the estimate pack will cover and when you will have it.
